WHAT IS CHIROPRACTIC?

Text Box: The nervous system is vital to an active and healthy body. It controls millions of nerves as messages go back and forth from the brain. Your spine protects the key parts of your nervous system. Everyday activities can cause misalignments in the spine or minor changes to posture. Chemical and emotional stresses may also interfere with these nerve pathways. These may in turn contribute and affect your overall wellbeing.

Chiropractic is the science of locating the areas of spinal dysfunction known as Vertebral Subluxation. Techniques, known as adjustments, are gently applied to correct the spinal position and return the flow of the nervous system back towards health. These enable your body to function more efficiently, removing stresses, enhancing health and improving performance sometimes even where problems may be silently developing.

Text Box: In Australia, all chiropractors are University trained professional practitioners and are registered. They look after the function of your spine to contribute to optimal health of your body and nervous system. Chiropractors also work with you to help maintain an overall healthy lifestyle.

CONSULTATIONS

Initial Consultation (up to 30minutes)

Long Consultation

(20 minutes)

Standard Consultation (10 minutes)

Your initial consultation may take up to 30 minutes, please allow yourself ample time for this.  During the consultation the Chiropractor will take a thorough case history, perform various tests such as orthopaedic, neurological, postural and palpation examinations.  The Chiropractor will then give you an indication of whether you require further examinations (ie. x-rays, blood tests) in which case he/she will inform you and write a referral.  If in the event your case is not accepted, you will be directed to someone who may be able to help you.  During the initial consultation the only time treatment may not be given is when further examinations are required that is detrimental to the implementation of treatment, however, if you are in acute pain, the Chiropractor will take the appropriate conservative steps to help reduce your discomfort.

Your second visit will always be a long consultation to thoroughly discuss with you the findings, what treatments will be given, how many treatments will be required, rehabilitation and exercise, postural and life style advice.  Your Chiropractor will inform you whether you will require standard or long consultations there on.

Most ongoing Chiropractic care only requires a standard consultation as the Chiropractor is fully aware of your case.  Your Chiropractor will always take an update history on each visit, as any life style changes may affect your spine.

Please Note:

If you are making an appointment as an existing patient please let the Chiropractic Assistant know whether you require a standard or a long appointment.  If you haven’t seen your Chiropractor for a long time, you will usually require a long appointment, or if it is new injury or problem you will require a long appointment.
